Picture
Dr. Loos maintains an active professional role training other mental health professionals how to effectively work with difficult clients and their families. This has included local involvement (serving on the boards of the Houston Psychological Association and the Houston Association of Marriage and Family Therapists; past-president of the Houston Psychological Association), as well as state and national involvement through workshops and publications. He is a licensed psychologist, a licensed family therapist, a certified substance abuse counselor, and an Approved AAMFT Supervisor for family therapy. He regularly receives requests for his publications on working with at-risk youth in school settings.

Dr. Victor Loos

Director of the Center for Family Consultation

Dr. Victor Loos, Director of the Center for Family Consultation, was recently awarded the Outstanding School Psychologist of the Year Award (2004) by the Texas Association of School Psychologists for his work in developing school-based violence prevention programs. He previously served as Clinical Faculty and Coordinator of Training at Galveston Family Institute (now Houston Galveston Institute), with a primary focus on at-risk populations. His primary caseload while at GFI involved clients from the CYS Youth Runaway Prevention Project, adolescents from the Harris County Juvenile Probation Family Intervention Program, victims and perpetrators of sexual abuse through Harris County CPS, and families referred by Communities-In-Schools workers. He currently serves as Director of Counselor Training at Deer Park I.S.D., is Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine where he continues to coordinate two federal grants training teachers and counselors in local school districts to work with at-risk students and their families, and he remains a consultant for Harris County Department of Education for dealing with particularly difficult cases. He has a special interest in serving the Hispanic youth who are at-risk for substance abuse, runaway, and social failure.
